About Our School

The Alagappa Schools had its inception in M.Ct.M. Preparatory school in 1954. Declared open by the then Governor of Madras Shri S. Prakasa, the school was nurtured by the Asoka Trust under the aegis of Padma Bhushan Dr. RM. Alagappa Chettiar. In 1982 it was upgraded into a high school and in 1989 into a Higher Secondary school through the initiative of Dr. Mrs. Umayal Ramanathan, the distinguished daughter of Dr. RM. Alagappa Chettiar. Few Words About Our PADMA BHUSHAN DR. ALAGAPPA CHETTIAR

Service to Education

Padmabhushan Dr.Alagappa Chettiar was a great Philanthropist, eminent educationist and a multi-faceted versatile personality. Born on 6th April, 1909 as second son of Shri K.V.AL.Ramanathan Chettiar and Umayal Achi at Kottaiyur of Sivagangai District, in Tamilnadu.

To bring prominence to the educational institutions he had the vision to convince Prime Minister Nehru to house one of the Governments National Research Institutes in the Alagappa campus. Dr. Radhakrishnan, the President of India saidat the opening of the Central Electro Chemical Research Institute (CECRI) on 14 Jan 1953.

RSP (Independence Day – Marina Beach)

Chief Guest: Mr.Edapadi Palanisamy CM of Tamilnadu

On the account of 71st year of Independence Day, our 11 RSP Students gathered at Chennai Marina beach. Hon’ble Chief Minister hoisted our national flag, all dignitaries, teachers, parents and students paid homage to our National Flag. The program ended with National Anthem.

Annual Sports Day 2017-18

Alagappa Martic Hr. Sec. School, Purasawalkam Celebrated its 35th Annual Sports Day on 9th August 2017. The Chief Guest, MR.RAMANATH VAIRAVAN Chairman spoke on inculcating the spirit of sportsmanship among the students and The Guests Of Honour Dr. Umayal Ramanathan graced the occasion. Mr.R.Vairavan, Chairman hoisted the flag and declared the sports meet open. KG Cheer up Dance, Primary Tribal Dance, Mast Drill, Yoga, Lezim, Zumba , Silambam Fire and mega dance performed by the students were the highlights of the day.

Tamilnadu Junior Championship Badminton Tournament

Tamilnadu State Junior Championship Badminton Tournament was held from August 8th to 13th in Sivakasi. Akshaya of STD XI C has been awarded the “Maiden Title” by being beaten the senior player in the Finals and won the Championship Title. She made us proud by being selected as a WINNER in Tamilnadu State Junior Ranking Championship 2017.

ROTARY CLUB  INSTALLATION

SCOUTS CAMP

Raja Puraskar testing camp was organized in Tonnakela, Avadi, Chennai from 12.7.17 to 14.7.17. Our school students passed in all the 16 exams and they were promoted to Rashtrapathi Scouts.

ROAD SAFETY PATROL

An inauguration of Road Safety Patrol was held in our school on 18th July 2017. Mr.Natarajan, (Assistant Commissioner - North Chennai) was the Chief Guest . The Program was organized by Dr.Chandra Gupta (Alumni). More than 140 students of our school participated the program. Mr.Natarajan stressed the importance of strictly adhering to road rules. Dentist Chandra Gupta in his speech conveyed to obey safety rules and regulations, that the students can save themselves and others on the road.

ROTARY CLUB INSTALLATION:

The Installation of Interact Club of Alagappa Matric. Hr.Sec.School, Purasawalkam was held on 24th July 2017. Rtn.Mukund (District Director Youth Services) Rtn. Venkat Ramani ( Past President ) Rtn.Seshasai (Youth Service Director) & Rtn.Rajasekar Gorantala (Ex-Secretary) of the Rotary Club of Madras attended the meeting. N.Dhavala was elected as the President of the Rotary Interact Club for the year 2017-18. The Rotarians promised all support and encouraged the students to do their best.

ROTARY CLUB  INSTALLATION

CRICKET TOURNAMENT:

The Cricket team of Alagappa Matric.Hr.Sec.School participated in the MCC – MRF Inter School Cricket Tournament for U – 17 category boys held on July 6, 2017. Our school team won the match by defeating Agarwal Vidhyalaya, Sri Padma Sarangapani H.S.S, Union Christian School, Govt boys.H.S.S, Madras Christian College H.S.S, St.Mary’s School, Sri Sitaram Vidhyalaya School and Sindhi Model School. T.D.Mithlesh of class XII scalped 5 for 23 and helped our school beat Agarwal Vidhyalaya. He was awarded with a trophy and certificate for Man of the Match and Best Bowler, respectively.
